I really enjoyed the first book in the Magical Drool Mysteries, George Knows, so I had to get Tillie's Tale when it came out. I have to say that I liked George Knows better, as it had a plot that I found more interesting. While I enjoyed Tillie's Tale, I felt that it didn't quite live up to its potential. As in the first book, I enjoyed the narration from George, the basset hound's, point-of-view, although I did get a little tired of his constant hunger. I just felt that there was a better mystery in the first book. We didn't know what was causing the problems, but once we did, its motivation was pretty clear. However, in this story, there is a ghost girl right from the beginning. The mystery here is why she is around and what can they do to let her spirit find peace. It doesn't take too long to figure out who she is, when she lived, and what she died from, and the author uses this information to teach the reader a bit of history and medical science and makes an adventure out of exploring an old attic and speaking with an elderly woman. That part was great! However, I didn't feel like the ghost really got closure. I didn't anyway. On top of that, I felt like most kids might not understand the dog agility training that George was describing in the scenes at the park. I didn't know what one of the things was that he was talking about, and I'm an adult, who at least has an inkling of the sport, even if I don't watch it. George went there looking for a dog that he wanted as a girlfriend a couple of times, but he didn't really get to interact with her. I guess it was supposed to build anticipation for a future story, but it seemed to be a distraction from the story here without actually going anywhere. Also, I thought at times we were going to get a bit more character development of George's "Girlpup", the young witch Karly, but we didn't.

Overall, I felt like there was a lot of underdeveloped potential here that a better story editor might have helped with. Also, there were a couple of Matrix-type moments when the same thing happened twice, but the grammar and spelling were good. I really would like to see another book in this series. There is plenty of potential here: humor, mystery, magic, adventure, family dynamics, history, responsibility, pet care, and more. Seriously, Drool Rules! Aroooo!

Tillie Tale Magical Drool Mysteries Book 2 edition by Mindy Mymudes Children eBooks Reviews

I throughly enjoyed Tillie's Tale.

A wonderful adventure for any age reader. Full of magic, mayheam, a Ghost and lets not for get George and his magic drool plus his bottomless pit of a stomach.

Hope there are more books to come in this enchanting series
Tillies Tale is no disappointment. The story continues on from George Knows and delightfully develops Tillies involvement in the new adventure.
To find out that dog poop must be special and magical because it gets picked up and saved had me laughing. I thoroughly enjoyed both books.
I really enjoy reading these stories from the point of view of George, the basset hound. George has quite the personality, and readers will make fantastic mental pictures of their adventures. Who is this ghost? What does she want? George (and Tillie) will solve the case! A perfect book for a dog-loving middle grade reader. .Teachers of 4th and 5th grade should consider using this (and the first book, George Knows) as a companion to teaching Point of View
The sequel to "George Knows" is just as entertaining as the first novel. While its appeal to younger readers is clear, the wry observances by George, a magical basset hound, will appeal to older readers as well. Readers will have to be careful while reading these stories, because they may learn something as well. The author is a biologist and a dog agility trainer, and it shows. From the history of the "ghostygirl" to the interactions of George, the narrator, with both dogs, humans, and other critters, the reader is offered insight into dog nature, human nature, and, in this story, a bit of epidemiology concerning the, well, I don't want to spoil it for you.

I highly recommend this book.
Tillie's Tale is so much fun! Bless George, the magical familiar Bassett Hound, who not only has his teen witch to train, but now is responsible for training Tillie, the nonmagical Bassett puppy belonging to his human's ninmsgical and exceptionally frustrating brother. When Tillie attracts a ghost, it becomes George's and everone else's responsibility to send her into the Light, but she won't go. From beginning to end, I was thoroughly entranced by everyone's working toward that goal. Were George and his humans able to send the ghost over? Well, to know that, you must read the book. Even better, read it to your kids or grandkids or someone's kids. You'll all enjoy it. Congratulations, Mindy, on writing a delightful followup to George knows. I still love his checking pee-mail. Now I have a name for what my poodles are doing. Ha!
George is back and he is hungrier than ever. I like how the author weaves magic with the mundane world and knocks witch stereotypes on their head. She has no trouble stepping away from the 'traditional' wicked witch with a black cat familiar. Aunt Heather has a raccoon as a familiar (which I love, because one of my D&D characters from long ago had a raccoon named Bleek as her familiar) and Karly, her niece and young witch in training has George, a delightful basset hound as her familiar. The story is all from George's point of view. He has quite the earthy view of the world around him. He's always happy to overshare his drool and his gas. ;-) Tillie (of the title) is the new pet of Karly's younger brother. She's a puppy and a normal, non-familiar basset hound.

I have a few things that would have brought the story to five stars for me. It's called Tillie's Tale, but while she's there, it's still very much George's Tale. I wanted to see more about Aunt Heather and the nice officer. I'm still not sure what breed George's girlfriend from the park was and from the lead up, it seemed like there would be more about her. I will say, picturing a basset trying to tackle an agility course was pretty amusing. The historical lesson with the ghost story was interesting - I didn't know some of those things. All told, I look forward to the next book in the series.
